(Reuters) - It's been a relatively busy start to legal hiring in 2021, driven by practice demand, a looming changeover in Washington and relief among law firms that 2020 didn't cut into revenues as much as initially feared.
Here are some notable moves since the last Career Tracker:
Becker has added Ned Bassen to its business litigation practice in New York. He joins as a shareholder focused on labor and employment litigation from Hughes Hubbard & Reed.
Blank Rome added Arash Beral as a partner in Los Angeles. Beral, coming from Freeman, Freeman & Smiley, joins the firm's corporate litigation group.
M. Chadwick Stackhouse has joined Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft's fund finance practice in D.C. He was previously with Troutman Pepper, where he led the firm's fund finance practice and was formerly the managing partner of its D.C. and Tyson Corner, Virginia, offices.
Robin Cohen and her 12-lawyer insurance recovery team are departing 150-lawyer McKool Smith to launch New York-based boutique Cohen Ziffer Frenchman & McKenna with more than 20 lawyers and staff.
Davis Polk & Wardwell has brought on Daniel Stipano as a partner in its financial institutions and regulation group in Washington. Stipano joins from Buckley.
Regulatory lawyer Kathryn Edgerton joined Davis Wright Tremaine as counsel in its healthcare team in Los Angeles. She was previously with Nelson Hardiman. The firm also brought on satellite and telecom lawyer Lafayette Greenfield as a partner in its Washington, D.C. office. He joins from Milbank.
Lauren Ferrante has joined Duane Morris as a partner in its corporate practice group. Ferrante adds to the firm's Chicago office from McDermott Will & Emery's SALT practice.
Fenwck & West brought on Brian Buckley, who rejoins the firm's litigation practice in Seattle. Buckley returns to the firm from Amazon.com Inc., where he was associate general counsel, litigation and regulatory.
Jason Ben joined Freeborn & Peters' bankruptcy and financial restructuring practice as a partner in Chicago, moving over from Goldstein & McClintock.
Samantha Ferrin has joined Greenberg Traurig's government law and policy practice as a director in its Tallahassee office. She most recently served as interim secretary and chief of staff for the Florida Lottery.
Carlos Lobo has joined Hughes Hubbard as partner in New York in the firm's Latin America group. He joins from Brazilian firm Veirano Advogados.
Boies Schiller Flexner partner Josh Riley has joined Jenner & Block, following others Boies Schiller partners and continuing an exodus of about 60 partners from the firm since last year. Riley, a litigator and congressional investigations lawyer, joins the firm's Washington, D.C. office.
K&L Gates added Helen Kim as a partner in its securities and transactional litigation practice. She joins in Los Angeles from Thompson Coburn, where she served as vice co-chair of the business litigation practice group.
Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton has recruited partner Wes Overson to its San Francisco office. He joins the firm's IP department from Morrison & Foerster.
Marisa Maleck has rejoined King & Spalding as a partner in its FDA and life sciences team. She most recently served as a senior counsel at Juul and will be based in Washington, D.C. The firm also added Jake Downing as a partner in its corporate, finance and investments practice group. He joins in Chicago from Seyfarth Shaw.
Kirkland & Ellis has added Andrea Agathoklis Murino as a Washington, D.C.-based partner in the antitrust and competition group. She joins from Goodwin Procter, where she was co-chair of the antitrust and competition practice.
Steven Feldman has joined Latham & Watkins as a partner in its litigation and trial department and resident of its Los Angeles and New York offices. He was previously with Hueston Hennigan.
Littler Mendelson has added Eric Compere as of counsel in its workplace safety and health practice group in Los Angeles. Compere was previously an attorney with the California Department of Industrial Relations' Division of Occupational Safety and Health.
Mayer Brown added Greg Matlock and David Freed as partners. Matlock, coming from EY, joins the firm's tax transactions and consulting practice in Houston as global co-leader of the tax-energy group. Freed is part of the firm's New York office in its capital markets and corporate securities practices. He joins from Vinson & Elkins.
McDermott Will & Emery has added Christian Fabian from Mayer Brown. Fabian joins McDermott's transactions practice in Chicago.
Former North Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Cheri Beasley joined McGuireWoods as a partner in its litigation and appellate groups in Raleigh.
Moses & Singer has added Lisa Murtha as a partner in its healthcare practice group. She joins the firm from Ankura Consulting, where she was senior managing director.
Virginia Bailey "Ginger" Rolfes, a real estate attorney has returned to Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough as a partner in Charlotte. She joins from Katten Muchin Rosenman.
Nixon Peabody added Travis Hill as a partner in its government investigations and white collar defense practice in New York. Hill joins the firm from the New York State Attorney General's Office.
O'Melveny & Myers had added data privacy and internet lawyer Tod Cohen as a partner in D.C. Cohen most recently was at Twitter Inc. as deputy general counsel and vice president.
Paul Hastings has hired securities and capital markets partner Brandon Bortner in Washington, D.C. He joins from Latham & Watkins.
Arthur Rooney joins Perkins Coie as a partner in Chicago. Coming from Baker & Hostetler, Rooney is in the firm's labor and employment practice.
Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan opened a new office in Austin with intellectual property litigators Scott Cole and Asher Griffin, who join from McKool Smith and Scott Douglass & McConnico, respectively.
Reed Smith added Danielle Ahlrich as a tax partner in Austin, Texas. She was formerly a name partner at Martens, Todd, Leonard & Ahlrich.
Rimon has recruited Steven Aaron to its Kansas City office, where he is a partner. He comes to Rimon from Dentons.
Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton has hired Stacey Rosenberg as a partner in Los Angeles. She joins from Hogan Lovells and will practice in the firm's finance and bankruptcy practice group.
Gayle Klein, McKool Smith's former financial litigation co-chair, also left the firm, joining Schulte Roth & Zabel in New York.
Idan Netser and Andrew Harper have joined Sidley Austin as transactional partners in its Palo Alto office. They were at Fenwick & West.
Snell & Wilmer brought on corporate and securities attorney Sarah Hibbard in San Diego as an associate, working with its life sciences and medical technology industry group. She previously was general counsel for biotechnology company EpicentRx.
Squire Patton Boggs has added Kate Sherrard as a partner in its financial services practice from Clifford Chance, where she was head of the Asia pacific maritime and offshore group. She joins the firm in Singapore.
Ralf Defren has joined Weil, Gotshal & Manges as a partner based in Frankfurt, where he will lead the firm's banking and finance practice in Germany. Defren joins Weil from Willkie Farr & Gallagher.
Douglas Landy has joined White & Case's financial services regulatory practice as a partner. He joins in New York from Milbank, where he led the fintech and regulatory practices.
Willkie Farr & Gallagher added Britt Mosman, former attorney-advisor at the U.S. Department of Treasury, as a partner in the global trade and investment practice group in Washington, D.C. The firm also brought on Jesse Myers in Houston in the firm's corporate and financial services department He was at Latham & Watkins.
Womble Bond Dickinson has hired restructuring, bankruptcy and creditors' rights attorney Lisa Tancredi to its Baltimore office. Tancredi joins the firm from Gebhardt & Smith.
