(Reuters) - Summer slump? Not so much. Law firms raced to announce new partners this week, with life sciences, private equity and intellectual property practices seeing a particular boost. Whether it was the start of a new month, a sign of firms adjusting to the pandemic's staying power, or both, there was no downturn to be seen on the lateral market.
Here are some of the most notable additions and exits:
Arnold & Porter has added an intellectual property litigation trio from Banner Witcoff. Christopher Renk, Michael Harris, and Helen Minsker join the firm in Chicago. Renk and Harris joined as partners and Minsker as senior counsel.
Charles Elder has joined Bradley Arant Boult Cummings in Nashville. He joins as a partner in the firm's litigation group from Irell & Manella.
Crowell & Moring recruited Preston Pugh and Michael Shaheen, both former federal prosecutors, as partners based in the firm's Washington, D.C. office. Pugh joins from Miller & Chevalier and Shaheen from the U.S. Justice Department. The duo expands the firm's False Claims Act practice.
Antitrust lawyer D. Jarrett Arp has joined Davis Polk & Wardwell as a partner in the firm's antitrust and competition group in Washington D.C. He was a member of the antitrust group at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher.
DLA Piper has brought on former U.S. Rep. Jim Greenwood to lead a new life sciences advocacy and lobbying group at the firm. Greenwood joins as a senior policy advisor based in Washington, D.C.
FisherBroyles has hired intellectual property litigation partner Michael Murray in New York. Murray joins in New York from Winston & Strawn.
Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher has added multiple attorneys. Ken Parker joined as a partner in its Orange County, California office from Haynes and Boone, focusing on patent and trademark litigation. From Jones Day, it added Houston-based Stephen Olson as a partner and head of its private equity practice in Texas. Pamela Lawrence Endreny, who focuses on U.S. and international tax matters, has joined the firm's New York office as a partner from Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom.
Goodwin Procter announced that Bonnie Ciaramella joined the firm as Chief Practice Management Officer, overseeing practice management across the firm's business law and litigation departments.
Haynes and Boone has brought on Richard Kanowitz as a partner in the firm's restructuring practice group in New York. Kanowitz joins the firm from Cooley.
Herbert Smith Freehills added London private equity partner David D'Souza to join its global corporate practice. David joins the firm from Kirkland & Ellis.
Hunton Andrews Kurth has added labor and employment partner Scott Nelson in its Houston office. Nelson joins from Seyfarth Shaw.
K&L Gates added Sook Young Yeu, Scott Peterman and William Ho as partners in the firm's integrated funds and private equity practices. The group joins K&L Gates' Hong Kong office from Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, where Yeu served as administrative partner of the Hong Kong office for the past 15 years, and is accompanied by two associates. The firm also brought on H. Thomas Anderton in its San Francisco office from Squire Patton Boggs. Anderton joins as a partner in the firm's IP procurement and portfolio management practice with a focus in the life sciences industry.
Katten Muchin Rosenman's London affiliate office has added Prav Reddy to the firm's insolvency and restructuring practice. Reddy joins as a partner from Charles Russell Speechlys.
Latham & Watkins has hired Katharine Moir in the Bay Area as a partner in its tax department and member of its transactional tax practice. Moir joins from Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, where she led the firm's West Coast tax practice. Latham has also brought on Peyton Worley in its emerging companies practice, who joins in New York from Cooley.
Littler Mendelson has added two attorneys in Reno, Nevada. Karyn Taylor rejoins the firm as a shareholder after serving as associate general counsel for NV Energy. Holly Stewart joins as an associate from Ryley, Carlock & Applewhite.
Brad Caswell has joined Linklaters as a partner in its investment funds group in New York. He comes to the firm from Schulte Roth & Zabel.
McGuireWoods has picked up Jason Cowley, a former federal prosecutor who co-led the Southern District of New York's securities fraud task force and previously headed up its anti-money laundering and asset forfeiture unit. He joins the firm's government investigations and white-collar litigation department as a partner in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Morgan & Morgan has added Michael Ram and Marie Appel, both from Robins Kaplan, in its class action practice. The duo will lead the plaintiffs firm's new office in San Francisco.
Norton Rose Fulbright has added Ted Kamman as a partner in New York. Kamman, a corporate lawyer with a focus on private equity investments, joins from Sidley Austin.
Nathan Sheers and Peter Lindsay have joined Paul Hastings with its launch of a new FDA regulatory practice in D.C. Sheer and Lindsay joined as partners in the firm's investigations and white-collar defense practice, coming from Sidley Austin.
John Pintarelli and Patrick Fitzmaurice have joined Pillsbury's insolvency and restructuring practice as partners in its New York office. Pintarelli comes from Morrison & Foerster and Fitzmaurice from Troutman Sanders.
Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan hired Fried Frank vet Justin Michaelson as a partner in the firm's London office.
Rimon added bankruptcy and creditors' rights lawyer Jacquelyn Choi in Los Angeles. Choi joins as a partner from Raines Feldman.
Seyfarth Shaw has hired Adam Lasky as a partner in its litigation department in Seattle. Lasky joins from Oles Morrison, where he served as chair of the firm's government contracts practice group.
Simpson Thacher & Bartlett added James Howe as a partner in its mergers and acquisitions practice in London. He comes from Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher.
