(Reuters) - McGuireWoods' Atlanta office is getting three new partners for its insurance group, the firm announced on Tuesday, in a push to assist clients in recovering pandemic-related losses.
Partners Anthony "Tony" Tatum, Shelby Guilbert and Joseph Englert are joining from King & Spalding, where Tatum co-led the firm's insurance coverage and recovery practice. Guilbert was a partner in the practice and Englert was a senior associate.
"These respected lawyers' collective experience in high-stakes insurance recovery matters will have immense benefits for our clients, particularly as they deal with legal issues and losses related to the continuing pandemic," McGuireWoods' deputy managing partner for litigation Dion Hayes said in a statement.
Tatum advises boards of directors on insurance and indemnification issues and negotiates terms and conditions with global insurers. He has recovered more than $2 billion in insurance assets for clients since 2015, according to his former firm bio. Tatum's clients have included First Horizon Bank, Kimberly-Clark Corporation, Shell Oil Company, Coca-Cola and Xerox.
Guilbert has an expertise in insurance recovery litigation, contract disputes, and cross-border litigation and international arbitration. He has helped clients dealing with data privacy issues recover hundreds of millions in insurance coverage.
Englert represents policy holders in complex commercial insurance coverage disputes. He has recovered losses for clients including health care service provider SavaSeniorCare and Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. During the pandemic, he has helped clients recover business interruption losses, according to his former firm bio.
"Tony, Shelby and Joe have been great colleagues, and we wish them the best of luck at their new firm," a King & Spalding spokesperson said.
Other law firms have also been investing in insurance coverage and recovery practices during the pandemic. In December Hunton Andrews Kurth expanded its national insurance coverage group with the addition of Washington, D.C., partner Koorosh Talieh from Perkins Coie. Last month, four McKool Smith partners parted with the firm to launched their own insurance recovery boutique, Cohen Ziffer Frenchman & McKenna, in New York.
