(Reuters) - U.S. President-elect Joe Biden on Friday announced that Louisa Terrell, who has worked as deputy general counsel and head of public affairs at consulting firm McKinsey & Company and as director of public policy at Facebook Inc, will serve as director of the White House Office of Legislative Affairs for his incoming administration.
Terrell currently oversees legislative affairs for the Biden-Harris transition team.
She has long had ties to Biden, serving previously as special assistant to the president for legislative affairs in the Obama-Biden administration; deputy chief of staff to Biden during his time as a Delaware Senator; and as executive director of the Biden Foundation, a nonprofit that suspended operations last year.
Terrell has cycled in and out of the corporate world, according to her LinkedIn profile, joining Yahoo! as a policy director in 2008, Facebook in 2011 and McKinsey in late 2019.
She did not immediately respond to a Friday request for comment.
Biden's Friday-announced list of senior staff picks also included Mala Adiga, a former Kirkland & Ellis litigation associate who will serve as policy director to Dr. Jill Biden, the incoming first lady. Adiga has held a series of government roles, including working under the Obama-Biden administration. She also worked on the Obama-Biden 2008 election campaign and for the Biden Foundation.
HEALTH CARE MOVES
Also this week, two companies involved in the health care industry - insurer Anthem Inc and behavior and pain monitoring technology creator Cordant Health Solutions - named new top lawyers as the coronavirus pandemic shakes up the sector.
Anthem, which last month warned of higher-than-normal medical costs in the fourth quarter because of coronavirus infections and recovery in demand for elective medical procedures, on Wednesday announced it has hired Blair Todt as its chief legal officer.
Todt starts at Anthem on Nov. 30. He joins from insurance company Health Care Service Corp, where he was also CLO.
He previously held senior in-house roles at insurance company WellCare Health Plans, defunct cardiac healthcare company MedCath Inc and consulting firm BearingPoint after starting his career at defunct law firm Carter Conboy, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Cordant Health on Thursday announced Jeffrey Williams as its new general counsel.
Williams started at Cordant as assistant general counsel in 2018. Cordant in a statement cited Williams' previous experience as assistant general counsel at dialysis service provider DaVita Inc, a role in which he represented the company in litigation and government investigations, as a reason for his selection.
The Justice Department in July said Cordant agreed to pay nearly $12 million to settle allegations it paid kickbacks for urine testing referrals.
Cordant did not admit to any wrongdoing in the settlement. A representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Friday.
The company's promotion of Williams, who has worked at law firms Willkie Farr & Gallagher and Taylor Anderson, also comes as it's offering telehealth services for drug testing and medication monitoring during the pandemic.
