(April 11, 2024) - Higher education attorneys Tres Cleveland, Brandt Hill, Evan Moltz and Roger Swartzwelder have joined Thompson Coburn LLP as partners.
Cleveland, Hill and Moltz will operate from Thompson Coburn's newly created office in Birmingham, Alabama, while Swartzwelder will be based in its Washington, D.C., office, the firm said in an April 8 statement.
All four previously were shareholders at Maynard Nexsen PC.
Cleveland is the former chair of Maynard Nexsen's education practice group. His practice includes litigating student fraud and educational malpractice claims, employment discrimination claims, real estate and vendor contract disputes, and cases under the False Claims Act, Title IX and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Hill, who concentrates on student and employment litigation and arbitration, worked as an associate at Winston & Strawn LLP before joining Maynard Nexsen in 2017.
Moltz represents clients in education litigation, mass and toxic tort, business disputes, and product liability matters. He spent 15 years at Maynard Nexsen.
Swartzwelder, who practiced with Maynard Nexsen for four years, provides regulatory, accreditation and operational advice to higher education institutions.
Between 2005 and 2019, Swartzwelder served as executive vice president, general counsel and chief compliance officer at Education Corp. of America.
